L x NC

It's been a while since my last post, partly because I've been lazy and partly because I didn't have much to say. I could have commented on Hurricane Katrina, but I felt as if there was nothing I could say that would add one crumb of comfort to the survivors or shed any great insight into the situation.

And now there's the Kashmir earthquake. The name Kashmir always conjures up mixed emotions. Thanks to the Led Zeppelin song I have this view of an exotic and magical place called Kashmir, and yet I know that in reality it's a war zone.

The earthquake has of course affected people on both sides of the conflict, and I can't help thinking that if anything good comes out of it, it will be to bring the two sides closer together in their shared suffering.

Or maybe they'll just ignore each other's suffering and only worry about their own and the conflict will just carry on as though nothing had happened. I hope not, but on past experience I'm not placing any bets.
